DAY 14

Nov 14 2018

After visiting Vancouver Island a few years ago, we always knew we would be back.

Our previous trip was spent in Campbell River, and this time around we went to Tofino.

During that visit to Campbell River, I had the opportunity to do some fishing, and it was one of the best trips I had been on. I had heard about fishing in Tofino and was looking forward to seeing how it compared.

If you've never been, it should be on your bucket list. Tofino is an out of the way place surrounded by natural beauty. From hiking through the rainforest to beachcombing, it offers many outdoor activities. Known for surfing, Tofino has a number of resorts and hotels to enjoy your stay. For accommodations, we stayed at the Tofino Resort + Marina, a nice hotel with a waterfront view that's close to everything.

While there we ate at a number of great restaurants, who knew a little town like Tofino could be a secret foodie haven. We dined at Wolf in the Fog, Tacofino and others, along with taking advantage of the Cook Your Catch at 1909, which was simply amazing.

While it wasn't part of the original plan, I decided to go to surf school. Being something I've never tried, this was the place to do it. As it turns out, I wasn't too bad. And what a blast. I can see why some become so infatuated with surfing.

We took in some other sights and visited a museum or two, but I think my favorite part of the culture experience was meeting Sol Maya, a local artist that specializes in glass blowing. The Solart Glass Studio was full of interesting pieces and we purchased a few as gifts along with one for outselves as a souvenir of our trip.

The Pacific Rim National Park was a great way to spend the day, with beautiful walking trails and boardwalks that wind through majestic giant trees. We concluded the day with a walk along Long Beach, and it truly is appropriately named. The end of the day found us back at the Tofino resort sitting on the patio overlooking Clayoquot Sound watching the sun set, the end to a perfect day.

It was a short trip, and we missed out on things like whale watching, but we know we'll be back soon enough and take in a number of activities we missed out on this time.
