DAY 1

Jun 23 2017

We left our house around 10. Our flight was scheduled for 3:30pm but we already knew it had been delayed at least an hour. We still wanted to give ourselves plenty of time. We first had to pick up my parents from their house since they would be driving our car back home. Then we had to pick up Matt from work. After that we were on our way to Dulles.

As our flight continued, we kept an eye on the time and although we were making up some of the delayed time, it was starting to look questionable whether we would make out connection or not. We asked a flight attendant and her response was 'I'm sorry, there is no hope." We decided to try and keep hope alive and ran as fast as we could through the length of Frankfurt Airport but arrived at the gate as our plane was backing out. Luckily since we were the first ones there (out of those who also missed the connection), we secured the last four seats on the next plane to Paris in only another hour.

DAY 2

Jun 24 2017

We made it onto the next flight, which also took off a little late due to a late arrival. At this point I was starting to worry we would not make it to our Eiffel Tower tour at noon. When our flight arrived in Paris, they held us on the tarmac for another 30 minutes due to a suspicious package. At this point I was panicking as it was 10am and we still needed to collect our bags, find a new shuttle to our hotel (we missed the first one), drive into Paris, and then walk 15 minutes to the Tower.

Divine Intervention struck and somehow we retrieved our bags quickly and we were able to jump into a shuttle that was waiting outside. We asked the driver to drop us off first which he agreed to. However, we hit traffic due to the Paris Air Show. We eventually decided to have the driver drop us at the tour and Matt would take the bags to the hotel. We followed the plan but Matt was able to run the 10 blocks back JUST IN TIME to meet us and we all made it on the tour together.

We went back to the hotel, finished getting checked in and took a much needed nap.

We stayed at the Hotel du Cadran. We chose the hotel because we stayed in a hotel in the same neighborhood in 2009 and loved being able to walk to the Eiffel Tower all the time.

We had breakfast at Cafe du Marche, which is on the corner of the pedestrian street, Rue Cler. Matt and I had breakfast here almost every day on our previous trip to Paris.

DAY 5

Jun 27 2017
We got up early on Tuesday morning and rode the metro out to Montparnasse Rail Station.

Montparnasse Rail Station was the closest place we could rent a car. We picked up a Volkswagon Touran, kind of a small version of a mini van and drove back to the hotel to pick up our luggage. Once we were checked out, we hit the road to go back to Versailles and see the inside since we missed it on the day before. Unfortunately, we were leaving Paris during rush hour so hit some traffic on the way.

Our original plans for Thursday were to drive to Toulouse and tour the Airbus factory where they make several models of Airbus planes, and then visit the Air and Space Museum which is next door. However, earlier in the week, I discovered that the factory does not do tours on Thursdays in June so we decided to visit the Prehistoric Caves of Lascaux instead which is on the way to Toulouse.

Unfortunately, when I put Lascaux into the GPS, it took us to a town called Lascaux in the middle of a park. It cost us about an hour but we got to enjoy seeing a lot of scenery including the famous apple farms and goose farms that the Dordogne region is famous for.
