DAY 31May 01 2019
Juneau Alaska- arrived into the main port of Juneau at 1pm today.
Wow...this place is absolutely gorgeous with snow peaked mountains surrounding us.
We negotiated a deal which included a city trolley bus tour & a separate bus trip to the Mendenhall Glacier with a guy named Nick from the Blue Bus Company. The cost was $55 usd each.
We visited the salmon hatchery company where we saw the process of spawning baby salmon. The building also had amazing fish tanks that included king crab, salmon etc.
We then were picked up in the trolley bus for more photo stops at the new whale statue & other amazing view stops.
The next part of our tour was a 20min drive to the Mendenhall Glacier. Wow....this was amazing & to be able to walk down to the waters edge & see the natural glaciers was mind blowing. We then made our way up to their information area to view.
This was an awesome day experiencing the beauty of Juneau.
DAY 32May 02 2019
Arrived into the port of Skagway Alaska at 6am. We had an early breakfast in the main dining room as we wanted to get off the ship around 8am.
We were rugged up as it was freezing. Skagway is known to be really cold due to the gusty winds from the ocean. Every part of our bodies were cold...
We were debating to do the bus or train ride along the narrow gauge White Pass & Yukon Route but the cost was approximately $140 usd per person, decided not to as we spent a bit yesterday in Juneau.
We made our way to town which is a 10 to 15min walk from the ship, beautiful old town as it still old from the Gold Rush era. We did a Gold Rush History tour with a local ranger, this was very interesting & informative about the Gold Rush & History.
We then got the local bus to the Gold Rush cemetery, this was at the end of town.
The bus dropped us off on the main road & we had to walk approximately 2 1/2kms over a rough stoned road with a steep mountain forrest on one side & the river on the other side. This was rather daunting.
DAY 33May 03 2019
We are now cruising Glacier Bay.
Wow....this is amazing.
We were invited to a "special outdoor gathering" for Platinum/Diamond members. We were taken to deck 4 forward, this is the crew outdoor area. The views were absolutely stunning as we were right near the tidewater glacier. The staff put on finger food, special coffees, mimosas etc. The weather was not as cold as yesterday.
This was the best day so far in experiencing the natural wonders of Alaska.
Tonight we are dining in Nouveau Restaurant, this was a gift from Merillou.
