DAY 1

Jun 30 2017

The special part of this trip is that we are using a 2015 Rand McNally Atlas for the bulk of the trip.

I will have to gauge the miles and the time frame solely on the atlas. We will see how it goes.

Arrived and we are already saying we will stay here again. The management was very nice and hospitable. Since we are only staying a night, the owner let us pick our spot (T5 spot for our tent)

Amenities - POOL, laundry, game room, showers, and restrooms. They serve breakfast at least on Saturday mornings for $5 a person. Coffee is complimentary.

Had Dinner.

It was a hard decision to either go get already cooked food or cook the food myself.

Guess who won.

I had a French dip that was amazing. We shared a buffalo brat that was ok and Brian had a bison burger that he liked. The French fries are seasoned like jack n the box. Which I love. The "kettle" chips were ruffles.

Brian wouldn't get the fries again. Only the chips.

The route above speaks for itself. Wyoming from the border to Jackson was one of the most boring drives I have ever been on.

We FINALLY made it to Yellowstone. For the longest time we didn't even know we were in Yellowstone until we got to Grant Village, which is 22 miles from theSouth Entrance.

When trying to figure where we were we got pulled over by park rangers for going 45 in a 25 and being in the middle of the road. They let us off with a warning after asking Brian "How much had he had to drink?" We told the ranger his eyes jump.

Finally found Canyon Village Campground. Picked up our late arrival packet and set up camp. We PASSED OUT!!!!

Decided to check out this place for camping one night. Very good choice. The close the gate at 10pm and uses the envelope system to pay for park entrance fees. The only not norm thing was a HUGE group of people having a family reunion of some kind. They had at least 30 tents setup but we had no problem finding room

Also the showers were nice and hot.

$15 per night
$5 for firewood from Willey the campground host
Leaving the tarp off and sleeping under the stars - Priceless

Had dinner at Tomasita's. Brian had eaten here with his parents over 10 years ago.

It was pretty good but EXTREMELY SPICY🌶🌶🌶

I got the beef enchiladas with red sauce and Brian got the tortilla burger. We shared a bowl of chili with green chili's

Sopailla's were so great. Especially the honey butter and honey

We finally broke down and decided to get a hotel room for the final night. Much to my displeasure we went with the Comfort Inn instead of the Hilton and we saved $100 for that decision.
