Arrive in El Chalten the night before, and settle in to our cabaña de Los Rios. Anna is a wonderful host and our accommodations are super comfortable and clean. We get up early and head to the glacier on a great trail around Cerro Lago. The hike was pegged as difficult but I think Don Ciro has up trained. It was quite easy. Most people just reached the front edge of the glacier but Hans and I hiked to the eastern edge around the brim. Great call. The views of the glacier were grand. We could see all the ridges and veins and also kept an eye and ear out mini avalanches.
Fitz Roy hike! Very easy hike but gorgeous views. The very end was a bit of a haul but worth it. I did lose Hans at one point due to a miscommunication (my b!) as I ran ahead and he didn't know this fact. After I went one way and he the other and pondered if a puma had attacked, we finally found each other after 20 min and a bit of a wild goose chase. All in all, the hike took about 5 hours and we were able to get home in time for the delicious veggie meal in town.
Flew to Buenos Aires for a few days! Stayed in a lovely airbnb in a cool part of town. It was raining so we couldn't tour hard but still got a glimpse. We dined at a speakeasy "hidden" restaurant that specializes in meat. sadly, it was not very good. We weren't there long as we decided to take a boat ride to Colonia, Uruguay the following day.
Toured Buenos Aires hard with great weather. Started walking around a nice street fair, with food carts, old cars. Likely in San Telmo. Then we walked along the converted warehouses along Puerto Madero. Then on to the wildlife reserve where we rented the jankiest bikes ever. We rode for about 30 min and took in the sites of birds, wetlands, lagoons against the southern end cityscape. Had a delicious berry smoothie by the water. Hans ran into Messi. Tried to walk to Plaza del Mayo. Had a yummy dinner at a really nice vegetarian restaurant called Bio. We were honesty sick of meat.
